ST Lawrence CofE Primary School is Awarded Fairachiever Status
Children and staff are celebrating at St Lawrence CE Primary School after having just received its Level 3 Fair Achiever award. Over the last three years, the school has been working towards getting their third and final school award.
Every year, the school recognises Fair Trade Fortnight but they go above and beyond this by ensuring that Fair Trade is taught across the school and across the academic year. Fair Trade tea, coffee and sugar is used for PTA cafes as well as being used in the staff room too.
The Fair Trade Ambassadors also promote the purchase of the Fair Trade Real Easter Egg and also the Fair Trade Advent Calendar.
The school has a group of children each year who form the Fair Trade Ambassadors group (pictured above) who meet with the Deputy Head to ensure that Fair Trade is always a focus for the school.
When the school celebrates Fair Trade Fortnight, they have a range of activities that the children join in with: visitors come in to explain Fair Trade; some classes visit Waitrose and Sainsburys for a Fair Trade treasure hunt and the children enjoy mixing up with different ages groups to take part in fun Fair Trade activities. Fair Trade Fortnight culminates in a festival where parents and governors are invited into the school to find out what that children have been learning and enjoy a cup of tea (Fair Trade of course!) at the café.
