Bishop Jonathan prepares young people for the 5th annual Taizé Pilgrimage
For the fifth year, the Right Reverend Dr Jonathan Frost, Bishop of Southampton, will lead a group of young people in pilgrimage to the Taizé Community where they will participate in a week of prayer, discussion and communal life.
Fourteen young people, many of whom will be travelling to Taizé for the first time and including the diocese’s CEMES group, met with Bishop Jonathan on Thursday April 28
at Christ Church, Freemantle in preparation for the pilgrimage which will leave the UK on June 18
and return on June 26
. On arrival in Taizé they will join over 2,000 young people who have gathered from all over the world.
Taizé is an ecumenical community in France which was founded in 1940 by Roger Schutz. It attracts tens of thousands of young people every year who spend a week together in communal living and a rhythm of prayer as well as sharing with each other in small discussion groups the challenges of life and their faith. The community consists of over 100 monks who take life long vows of celibacy, poverty and obedience. The community has small fraternities around the world where brothers live and work among the poor.
