Academy Drum Band Performs at Wolvesey
The Drum Band from Bournemouth’s Bishop of Winchester Academy played in the gardens of Wolvesey Palace, the official residence of the Bishop of Winchester where Clergy and Readers from the Diocese were invited to an informal supper by the Rt Rev Tim Dakin.
The year 8 - 9 year students in the band, with solo singer Georgie Hendry and Saxophonist Alex Francis, performed for the 50 guests. Nikki Budd, the Academy’s Head of Performing Arts , said that the students had increased the frequency of their practice sessions for over 2 weeks leading up to their “prestigious venue of the year.”
The Bishop thanked the students for giving their time to come to Wolvesey. "It was a joy to see and hear this enthusiastic group of young people giving such a professional and uplifting performance. The evening was the first event in our 2014 marquee season and we couldn’t have wished for a better start. The exciting programme the Academy Drummers Band gave, plus, of course, the excellent solo performances from Georgie Hendry and Alex Francis, were much appreciated and commented on by all present. The students are an inspiration to the Bishop of Winchester Academy and I am proud that the Diocese of Winchester and the Academy have a very special relationship."
