Continuing Ministerial Development

Continuing Ministerial Development

Clergy and Lay Ministers continue to deepen their faith and learning throughout their ministry. Our Continuing Ministerial Development program aims to provide a range of helpful training and development opportunities to support this individual responsibly. It is important for clergy and lay ministers to feel affirmed and supported in ministry and our CMD program is part of a range of support offered which also includes training grants, MDR’s and residentials at times of Transition in Ministry.

Transitions in Ministry Residentials

Each year the dioceses of Bath & Wells, Bristol, Guildford, Oxford, Portsmouth, Salisbury and Winchester, operating as part of the CMD group of the Regional Training Partnership, collaborate in arranging a number of consultations for clergy who are at significant key points in ministry. These consultations provide opportunities for participants to reflect with others at the same stages of ministry on the particular issues related to these stages: taking up first responsibility, moving to a new post, becoming a training incumbent or an area/rural dean, and preparing for retirement.

Further details can be found here: Transitions in Ministry – Diocese of WINCHESTER (anglican.org)

Development and Support Grants

The Diocese of Winchester is pleased to make grants available to all licensed ministers for retreats and relevant training courses, including Further Study and Study Leave. Please see below for more information.

You are encouraged to have an initial conversation with Chris Hill who can be contacted via email on chris.hill@winchester.anglican.org

To apply for a grant, please complete and submit the application form, which can be downloaded below – together with copy invoices evidencing cost, must be submitted as soon as possible after the event.

Retreat Grants

All licensed ministers may apply once in each calendar year for a £50 grant towards the cost of a retreat*.

To apply for a grant, please complete and submit the application form, which can be downloaded below – after the retreat has been taken – together with a copy invoice or other proof of payment. Applications will not be entertained for any retreat taken in a preceding calendar year.

*(‘Retreat’ here includes worship-based events like Spring Harvest, On Fire and New Wine, despite their teaching element – as long as these are being attended on a personal basis rather than as a church leader leading a church group.)
