Youth justice project in Eastleigh
Eastleigh Deanery supports the work of the Wessex Youth Offending Team (YOT) with both young people and their parents through Referral Order Contracts, by exposing them to the impact on victims and reparation work provided by the Rainer Charity Organisations. It also uses church buildings and congregations to facilitate parenting support groups run by Southampton City Council and Wessex YOT.
The churches in the Deanery had been exploring the reasons behind young people get into trouble with the criminal justice system and working with other organisations to find ways of helping them and their families. The churches felt it was important to be involved early with youngsters to provide support to address criminal behaviour and where it can lead before they collect significant criminal records that can blight their lives and those of their families.
