Andrew Lincoln is Portland Professor of New Testament at the University of Gloucestershire.  He has previously taught in the University of Sheffield and the University of Toronto.  Among his publications are Ephesians (Word Biblical Commentary, 1990), Colossians (New Interpreter’s Bible Vol. XI, 2000), Truth on Trial: The Lawsuit Motif in the Fourth Gospel (Hendrickson, 2000), The Gospel according to St. John (Black NT Commentaries, Continuum, 2005), Hebrews: A Guide (T. & T. Clark International, 2006).  He has recently served as President of the British New Testament Society (2006-09).

Unlocking the Bible @ St Michael and All Angels has been a monthly Sunday evening event that seeks to break open the Bible one book at a time - to encourage Christians to read and to enable them to do so with understanding, even excitement.  What's the background?  What are the major themes?  Where does it fit in?  What might it mean for us today?

This has been primarily a local event run by St Michael's for its own community, but we decided last year to create the opportunity for a wider range of people to hear those who can speak with authority and open up the scriptures for all.  Last year, in the first event of this kind for us, we welcomed Morna Hooker to help us explore St Mark’s Gospel.  This year, we are delighted to welcome Professor Andrew Lincoln to help us explore the Gospel of St John.
