The Bishop of Basingstoke, the Rt Revd Peter Hancock, was among dozens of cyclists and walkers who took part in this year’s sponsored Ride and Stride in aid of the Hampshire & the Islands Historic Trust.
The event on Saturday 14th September marked the 25th anniversary of the Trust and organisers hope it will have raised more than £60,000 towards the upkeep of the region’s historic church buildings.
Churches in some parts of the Diocese received more than 60 visitors during the day and participants were rewarded with delicious refreshments and snacks.
Half the money raised by each Rider or Strider goes to the church of their choice; the other half, plus Gift Aid, will be allocated by the Trust in grants and loans to churches struggling to pay for repairs and modernisation.
Also taking part in the event was Sir George Young, Conservative MP for North West Hampshire, and the Trust chairman Lady Joan Appleyard.
