Love Southampton, an initiative of the churches in the city, will be hosting a Christmas Street Party on Saturday 13 December, from 4pm ‘til 7pm in Guildhall Square, Southampton.
CJ Edwards (local artist and star of last year’s series of The Voice) and his band will be performing some Christmas favourites live to keep the crowds entertained, and there will be performances from a local choir too. With giant inflatables and craft activities for the kids, there promises to be lots to see and do.
The event, which is free, is the last event of the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Southampton’s city status and has been organised jointly by Love Southampton, Southampton City Council and the E-Quip Community Arts Project.
The Right Reverend Jonathan Frost, Bishop of Southampton and chair of the Love Southampton Council of Reference, said: ‘We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to what will be a very festive occasion, and an excellent way to come together as a community to celebrate this special time of year.
‘We are very proud of Love Southampton’s work in uniting churches and organisations across the city, supported by the City Council, particularly over the course of this 50th anniversary year for Southampton. We would like to thank all those who have worked so hard to make all the events so successful.’
Event organiser Neil Maddock, Director of E-Quip, a Southampton based community art project, said:
‘We’re really excited about celebrating Christmas right in the heart of the city! Our hope is that many people will come along and experience the great atmosphere, join in with the carol singing and enjoy a free mince pie! Christmas can be a wonderful time of year and we want to give people a special event to remember.’
At 5pm there will also be a mass Christmas carol sing-a-long, with song sheets provided. Free mince pies and refreshments will be available to keep everyone going.
The Love Southampton Christmas Street Party is a free event, which will be held in Guildhall Square, Southampton. It starts at 16:00 and will go on until 19:00.
