Holiday club helps children to make a difference

Children at Dibden holiday clubChildren are getting ready to change the world having taken part in a holiday club run by a parish in the Diocese of Winchester.

More than 190 children aged between four and eleven years old gathered together for a holiday club  in August at St. Andrew’s Church in Dibden Purlieu.Using the theme ‘Polar Explorers’, children were given the chance to see how ordinary people could be encouraged by God to make a difference in the world.

Participants had the opportunity to join sessions which included stories, games, singing, messy challenges, videos, and “flanning” of leaders. Over 100 trained volunteer adults and young people facilitated workshops such as dance, video and photography, arts and crafts, and sports.

Through the kind support of St. Andrew’s and all the volunteer staff, the parish was able to reach out to many families who haven’t been able to access other holiday projects so that their children could participate. St. Andrew’s Church sees this as a way of living out their mission of being “at the heart of the community.”
