The Right Reverend Tim Dakin, Bishop of Winchester, has accepted an invitation to become the new President of the YMCA Fairthorne Group, which covers all of Hampshire, parts of Dorset and the Isle of Wight.
Bishop Tim formally accepted the invitation to become the organisation’s President at a reception held at St John’s House, the YMCA’s city base in Winchester. The reception was also attended by Chris Hand, the Chief Executive of the YMCA Fairthorne Group, and The Right Reverend David Williams, the Bishop of Basingstoke.
The YMCA Fairthorne Group is a rapidly growing organisation committed to enabling young people to flourish. In the past year the YMCA Fairthorne Group has opened two new facilities in Hampshire and is currently building three brand new buildings to accommodate young people from across the region. The organisation has increased the number of Early Years places it offers from 200 to 700, created 70 new employment opportunities, and by the end of the year will be providing housing for almost 200 young people.
Commenting, Tim Dakin, the Right Reverend Bishop of Winchester said:
“I am delighted to accept the invitation to be President of the YMCA Fairthorne Group. The YMCA is a social enterprise movement doing valuable and important work across the region, such as providing accommodation and employment opportunities for young people and helping young people and parents at the early stages of their education.
A new community formed around Jesus which changed the world. I have accepted this invitation to become President of the YMCA because it is also committed to building communities and changing lives. Together, we can make a significant contribution to the common good. The work of the YMCA shows us what happens when community works. I’m excited to be a part of this impressive organisation, and about the future ahead”.
