Romsey Abbey will host an event with the charity Samaritan’s Purse on Tuesday 18 March from 7pm-9pm to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Rwandan genocide. The event is titled the “Resurrection of Hope”.
The guest speaker is the Bishop of Kigali, Rt Revd Louis Muvunyi who is currently visiting the UK.
Bishop Louis will be sharing with us how the Anglican Church has helped to rebuild the country and provide reconciliation, restoration and rehabilitation to the traumatized people of Rwanda.
He’ll be discussing the role and ministry of the Anglican Church in Rwanda as well as the impact that Samaritan’s Purse Raising Families initiative, which is supported by the Diocese of Winchester, has had on the churches in his country. Case studies on the difference the initiative has made to people’s lives in Rwanda can be found here: https://www.samaritans-purse.org.uk/raising-families-stories
The event will also be discussing how local churches across the Diocese are actively helping to tackle HIV/Aids and issues of poverty, as well as rural development, medical work and vocational training and education.
At this very poignant time, this will be a very positive event to highlight how the Anglican church in Rwanda is helping to rebuild the country and the support it is given by churches across Winchester.
Everyone is welcome to attend, there is no need to book, there will be an opportunity for questions, and refreshments will be available.
