People in parishes across the Diocese of Winchester are working to develop their mission, reaching out into their local communities to make a positive difference. This work is crucial if we are to become a mission-shaped Diocese, but for it to continue every parish is dependent on the generosity of its parishioners.
To help with this many parishes across the diocese already use the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS). This enables people to give to their parish via this scheme using a Direct Debit. This can be made on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. Each donation is restricted to a parish church. If this scheme becomes the principal funding method for your Church, you will have ‘inflation-proofed’ your giving, maximized your cash-flow and minimised your administration. This will free up your parish to focus on other important priorities. It is simple to use and 124 parishes in the Diocese of Winchester have already opted into the scheme.
In summary the scheme:
- Collects your regular donations for your parish
- Claims the Gift Aid entitlement on your behalf
- Pays the gross amount into your PCC account within ten days
- Undertakes a basic level of donor care
- Provides the (popular) option for donors to increase donations annually with inflation.
To help you to find out more about the scheme and how your parish can start using it, the Diocese of Winchester is holding an event on 7 October 2015 for anyone who is a member of a parochial church council (PCC).
