Here are some tips to make life easier for you when using our web site.
Navigating this web site
To navigate through this web site, please use the top menu bar to choose a main section and then click on a sub-section within the second level navigation. The menu (on the left-hand side of the page) lists all the products/services that can be found within that area
Attention - Mac users
Microsoft has not released a new version of Internet Explorer for Mac since their last release of version 5.2.3. This web browser is out dated and is no longer supported by Microsoft.
Solution
Use an alternative browser like Safari (included as standard) or Firefox. Visit www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ for more information on this browser.
Font type and size
For improved visibility, our web site allows you to increase (or decrease) the size of text and alter the choice of font, to suit your preferences.
- Font size Internet Explorer users: To alter the size of the text on this web site, select 'View' (found on the menu bar across the top of your browser), then Text Size, and then your preferred size. Alternatively, you can hold down CTRL and use the mouse wheel at the same time to almost infinitely change the text sizes on our web site
- Mozilla Firefox users: Use the mouse wheel (or hold down CTRL and use + key to increase font) to almost infinitely change the text sizes on our web site
To alter the choice of font:
- Internet Explorer Users - Open your 'Internet Options' window by going to 'Tools' - Under History, choose 'Fonts' and select your preferred style, then click 'OK' - Go to 'Accessibility' within 'Internet Options' and click on 'Ignore font styles/font sizes specified on Web pages' - Then click 'OK'. You should now see a difference in font.
To alter the colour of text and background:
You may find specific colours enable you to view our web site easier.
- Internet Explorer Users - Open your 'Internet Options' window by going to 'Tools' - Under History, choose 'Accessibility' and click on 'Ignore colours specified on Web pages' - Then click 'OK'.
- Netscape Users
- Go to 'Edit' 'Preferences', 'Appearance', 'Colours'
- Choose 'Always use my colours, overriding document', then choose your colours.
Guidance on using PDF files from this site
Some documents on the winchester.anglican.org site are available in PDF format. Most computers will open this type of file automatically but if you do not currently have the Acrobat Reader on your computer you will need to install Acrobat Reader. Acrobat Reader is a small piece of software known as a plug-in that is freely available from Adobe. Please use this link to go to the Adobe site to download it if you need to. Guidance on downloading files from this site
In most internet browsers you can immediately use the files on this site. However in some you may need to download the file to disk - or you may wish to do this so that you have the file for later reference (e.g. to keep a PDF document on a local hard drive).
Files on our site are available for downloading to your local hard disk by right-clicking on the link to the file that you wish to download and choosing "Save Link As" (in Firefox) or "Save Target As" (in Internet Explorer) and specifying the place on your hard drive you would like to save the file.
For Macintosh users: Option-click on the link of the file that you wish to download and specify a local path and file name.
Once the file has been downloaded, it is possible to open it locally using the file's local application e.g. Adobe Reader, Quick Time etc.
Information about plug-ins
Some pages at winchester.anglican.org need small bits of extra software called 'plug-ins' so that you can view them. Most computers will already have these extra bits of software installed, but in some cases you will need to download them from the companies who make them.
All the plug-ins needed to access our content are freely available.
When you download these plug-ins, you will be asked to agree to some terms and conditions with the software manufacturer. This does not involve the WDBF. The manufacturer should tell you how your personal details will be handled. In some cases the manufacturer may offer you other products, including ones which cost money The WDBF does not endorse the products or plug-ins produced by software manufacturers.
