Date(s) - 08/05/2015 - 10/05/2015
On the date of the Anniversary commemoration, Friday 8 May, there will be 2 minutes silence at 3.00pm in both the Cathedral and the Refectory.
On Saturday 9 May, in common with other Cathedrals throughout the nation, the bells will be rung at 11am.
On Sunday 10 May the anniversary will be marked in the prayers at all services and, in particular, at the 11am Eucharist we shall welcome The Revd Huw Evans, Army Chaplain at Worthy Down, as the preacher. That service will be attended by the Lord-Lieutenant and the Mayor of Winchester, as well as the Leader and Chairman of Hampshire County Council.
The Dean of Winchester, The Very Revd James Atwell, says:
“VE Day has shaped the story of post-war Europe and it is important we remember the cost of peace and the continuing responsibility of our own generation to forge the future with renewed hope.”
