On August 16th 2015 it is the 10th Anniversary of the death of Brother Roger, the founder of the Taizé Community. It is also an important year in the life of the Community as they celebrate 100 years since Brother Roger’s birth and 75 years since he first founded the community in Taizé.
Since the 1950s the Community has welcomed many thousands of young people each year from many different Christian denominations. They are drawn to Taize to discover, alongside other young people from all around the world, how to be part of a ‘pilgrimage of trust’ on earth.
‘For Brother Roger, it was essential not to organize a movement around the community. On the contrary, each person is invited to go home and live out what he or she has grasped of the Gospel; and to do this with an increased awareness of the life that dwells within them and of the practical gestures of solidarity they can put into practice in their own immediate environment. In many countries, young adults come together on a regular basis for prayer with songs from Taizé, while remaining in touch with the reality of the local Church.’ www.taize.fr/en
To mark this special time in the life of the Community there will be a Taizé Prayer on Sunday August 16th at 6.30pm at Christ Church, Freemantle; Waterloo Road, SO15 3BT to which all are welcome.
