To help you prepare for this you can obtain a copy of the new Guidelines by following the link below:
Last year the General Synod of the Church of England approved a significant revision to the Guidelines for our professional conduct as clergy. The new Guidelines are not a set of rules, although they may cause us to amend aspects of our ministerial practice, but operate rather by shaping the environment and expectations within which we pursue our vocation. They are a reflection on the evolving nature of ordained ministry in our contemporary context. This is a reflection that is at one and the same time theological and devotional, practical, legal, social, cultural….in a sense, this is “where we are” as a Church, and it is most helpful that, like the previous version, these revised Guidelines are set out in the form of a reflection and commentary on the Ordinal.
We will have the opportunity to spend time looking together at the revised Guidelines. There will be some aspects to them that we would like to draw out and highlight for attention. However, the Guidelines are not the archdeacons’ document or message, but rather our shared possession, as those who together follow the vocation of ordained ministry in the Church of England. As such it would be helpful if you had the taken the opportunity to look through the revised Guidelines and came along equipped with areas you would like to discuss together.
